“Great things are done by a series of small things brought together.” Vincent Van Gogh

It's a simple yet powerful quote. As a child growing up, my family often struggled to make ends meet but my parents taught us through their actions that regardless of your situation, there's always something you can do for your community. In my adult life as a father, husband, and neighbour I've leaned on their example and my experiences to volunteer in my community or contribute my talents to important causes that need my help.

Why we give back

Like many, my family has also felt personal loss and been impacted by cancer, heart disease, mental illness, substance abuse, or sudden tragedies. Coming to terms with the impact of these events often evokes statements like, "If only there had been more resources to help them", or "If only there were a cure".

It's unfortunate that in a country as rich and blessed as Canada that we don't always have the adequate resources to help those in need or crisis. It can also be frustrating to think in this age of modern medicine we don't always have a cure for terrible diseases. At the same time, it's heartwarming to know there are many organizations dedicated to helping others, providing end-of-life care, addiction prevention, or making advances in research aimed at cures for currently incurable diseases. This work is expensive and these vital initiatives and services need the financial support of our community.
